October is DEAM (Disability Employment Awareness Month) a month dedicated to celebrating and encouraging hiring of persons with disabilities.
It is in that vein that I want to discuss a saying I use regularly and why it must be an essential part of your hiring strategy, if you wish to ensure you have hired the best person for the job.
Right Person/Right Job is a battle cry to remind hirers/employers to be open to different ways of achieving desired results at work.
Right Person/Right Job challenges you to reach beyond the obvious job applicant and include the 1 in 3 Nova Scotian job seekers who are living with disability and ready to get the job done.
Right Person/Right Job encourages you to never settle – but to always engage difference vs avoiding it.
Right Person/Right Job allows us all to expect applicants who bring great skills to the table that you may have missed if you were busy screening out vs screening in.
Right Person/Right Job invites hirers to value experiences, often found in non-traditional ways, as much as education/designations.
Right Person/Right Job is where you can participate in DEAM in a meaningful way.
Right Person/Right Job is a true win, win, win for all who embrace the goal of ensuring a welcoming, diverse, workplace.
