Building Emotional Resilience in Youth

reachAbility is thrilled to be partnering with BGC Greater Halifax Clubs (formerly Boys and Girls Club) to offer BERY: Building Emotional Resilience in Youth at BGC locations in Halifax-Dartmouth! The goal of BERY is to provide youth aged 11-17 with the tools they need to regulate and manage their emotions and help support their overall mental wellbeing. This program is made possible with the help of our fantastic partners at BGC Greater Halifax Clubs and with the financial support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

The BERY program introduces youth to the foundations of emotional awareness and communication through engaging, activity-based learning. Throughout the program, youth explore how emotions arise, how they are processed, and how developing awareness of these emotions can shape the way they connect and communicate with others. Emphasis is placed on building practical, real-world skills and helping youth identify and express their needs clearly while understanding the influence emotions have on their interactions.

Topics Covered:

  • Understanding how emotions arise
  • Primary vs Secondary emotions
  • Difference between needs and wants
