Collaboration over Competition: How Working Together Strengthens Our Impact

In the non-profit sector, collaboration is not just helpful, it is essential. Many organizations share similar missions and serve overlapping communities, yet it’s common to feel a sense of competition. With limited funding and resources, it can sometimes seem like we’re all vying for the same support. But when non-profits come together instead of working in silos, the results are far greater than what any one group could achieve alone.

ReachAbility’s current outreach and “on-the-road” programs at pallet shelters and tiny homes are a perfect example of this spirit of collaboration in action. These initiatives have been made possible through strong partnerships between non-profit organizations, government entities, and committed funders. By pooling expertise, resources, and energy, we’ve been able to meet people where they are and provide not just services, but a sense of connection and hope.

As someone who comes from a different country, I’ve been struck by how these dynamics play out here, the challenges of funding scarcity, but also the incredible willingness of organizations to come together for the greater good. It’s a reminder that while our systems may differ, our values of compassion, inclusion, and community are universal.

Moving to a new country has shown me that, no matter where you are, collaboration isn’t just an organizational value, it’s a way of belonging. Every partnership and every shared effort, becomes an invitation to contribute and to connect. It reminds me that even when we start in unfamiliar places, there is always room at the table when we choose cooperation over competition.

Through collaboration, we don’t just strengthen our impact, we strengthen each other.
